Child

Family Drawing

Working with children is unlike working with adolescents and adults. Typically, adults and adolescents engage in talk therapy, where young children are unable to communicate in that way.  A child does not usually possess the language that can convey their inner emotional landscape.  By using play therapy I can reach for the child’s unspoken internal experience.  Play is universal and facilitates growth and therefore health. Children are able to express their thoughts, feelings, and fantasies through play while developing their physical, psychological, emotional, and social skills. Children may struggle to understand themselves in a grown-up world and therapy may provide a space for them to flourish despite their traumas. I communicate with children in a simple and direct way, helping them ease through some difficult passages in their lives.
